ORB was engaged by the Brainerd Family YMCA as their Owner’s Representative on new Child Care Center in Brainerd, MN, the first of four (4) major projects.  This was a complete interior/exterior renovation of an existing structure located across the street from the Y’s existing program center in downtown Brainerd.  A unique, two-level, 6,000 square foot space was renovated into six (6) separate classrooms for children from three (3) weeks to pre-kindergarten ages. The facilities include a circulation room, motor skills room, and an indoor slide! Additional updates included built-out storage, staff rooms, a private office, as well as a new fire escape and sprinkler system.

This facility was greatly needed to provide reliable, affordable childcare in a safe, nurturing environment in the community.

The project featured multiple financial supports, including that local and State participation, various grants, and USDA Rural Development funds.  In collaboration with all stakeholders, ORB facilitated the planning process, created the implementation team, coordinated the financing and brought their plan to fruition.  The new Child Care Center was the first step in a long-term vision to invest in the children, families, and adults in the Brainerd Lakes community.
